The California University of Science and Medicine School of Nursing is a nationally-accredited medical school based in Coronado, California, in the state's northern part. CUSM received its first national provisional LN certification in January 2018 and began enrolling students for fall courses conferring an online BSN degree beginning in July 2018. CUSM is accredited by The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education Commission (ACN) and is one of twenty schools recognized by the National Council Licensure Examination Board (NCLEX). Pacific University offers a second, accredited program.
The California University of Science and Medicine School of Nursing's mission is to prepare students for the rapidly changing world of medicine through its rigorous curriculum and graduate-level studies. To do so, it must overcome obstacles posed by two significant factors. The first is that California is a very diverse state with an enormous population, many medically underserved or remote areas. The second is that California has many people who belong to racial and ethnic groups that are economically disadvantaged. Because of these two factors, California has been forced to expand its health care system to provide access to quality health care and prevent healthcare costs from rising.
In the last decade, the number of people in California diagnosed with chronic diseases has increased. Diabetes, heart disease, obesity, osteoporosis, respiratory disease, and cancer are among the most common chronic diseases diagnosed in California. Thus, California has become an increasingly popular destination for people looking to improve their overall health. As a result of these conditions and others, there has been an increase in the number of people applying to the California University of Science and Medicine's School of Nursing.
Over the past ten years, the California University of Science and Medicine has experienced tremendous growth. During this period, the number of students applying to the school has increased by over twenty-five percent. The school now offers programs in nearly every area of health care. In San Francisco, the school serves students seeking post-graduate and Associate degrees in nursing, public health and forensic science, cardiology, dermatology, radiology, and other specialized areas.
This school prides itself on the many professional activities it has participated in over the years. For example, the college maintains relationships with numerous civic and other community organizations. Besides, the school has served on the American Heart Association's steering committee and the American College of Surgeons. In 2004, the college also became a founding member of the American Nurses Association. In addition, the school participates in national conferences such as the Intercollegiate Studies Symposium, California Association of Schools and Colleges, and the California Nurses Association Annual Meeting.
When it comes to completing coursework for a degree at California University of Science and Medicine, there are a variety of options. Students can choose to take general education courses in order to be prepared for their careers, or they may choose to major in a specific area of medicine. Within the School of Nursing, students can choose to either specialize in nursing research or teaching, or they can complete an associate degree in public or business health. Students applying to these programs should be aware that these degrees do not have the same salary potential as those from more prestigious universities. However, these degrees provide students with an excellent foundation in which to build their careers.
Master of Science in Public Health:
Students applying to the Master of Science in Public Health should have substantial college credits and a portfolio of work demonstrating previous experience in public health. This portfolio will be required for students applying to the Clinical and Translational Science Programs (CTSP). For students applying to these programs, the portfolio is not always necessary, but it is highly recommended. For instance, students applying to a Master of Science in Chemistry may choose to apply to the Master of Science in Biology instead. By focusing their studies on the field of public health, students applying to these programs have a strong foundation in science, which is needed to pursue graduate work in the field.
In order to ensure that all requirements are met, students should enroll in the program at California University of Science and Medicine. Upon enrollment, students should be sure to read the entire student handbook thoroughly before commencing the program. This guide also contains information about Financial Aid, if applicable.
